Mani Monday with Zoya – Binx

Hello, lovelies!  Today I want to share one of my most recent acquisitions, Zoya’s Binx.  I absolutely have loved all the swatches I’ve seen, so I was eager to get my hands on this.  I picked it up at Ulta for $9.

I love the multi-color look the iridescent glitter gives this magenta polish.  It is stunning in the bottle.  I was hopeful it would be as brilliant on the nail.

Just look at the multi-tonal color!

I found this polish to be a three-coater to get the truest color.  As sheer as it is, it would look excellent layered over a creme as well.  Application was a dream; I have come to expect as much from Zoya, and anything less would give it a low rating.  I am absolutely in love with this polish (if you can’t tell.)  I definitely give Zoya’s Binx a 5 out of 5.

This was my chosen polish for the Great Polish Giveaway of 2014.  If you haven’t already, enter from my original giveaway post.  You could win up to 200 polishes!

And one last photo: a macro of the polish on my thumbnail:

Review: Sinful Colors Silk – Silver Solution

Hello lovelies!  A little while ago, I went in Walgreens and found the Sinful Colors Silk collection.  The silver shade, Silver Solution, caught my attention and I decided that I would get it and try it out.

It is a lovely silver color in the bottle.  I was very eager to try this one out.  I have one or two gold satin polishes, but nothing in silver.

SS Layers

I was disappointed to find that it takes four coats to get full opacity, and even then you still have a bit of visible nail line.  Silver Solution is very sheer.

SS as Top Coat

It does work well as a top coat.  Pictured is one coat of Silver Solution over (from top to bottom): Avon – Powerful Pink, Butter London – Diamond Geezer, and Avon – Blue Shock.  The Diamond Geezer nail is what I had expected when I purchased this polish.

All in all, I’m highly disappointed with this particular color in the Silk collection.  I would hope that the other colors are more opaque.  Even though Silver Solution makes a nice top coat, it does not work well over all colors.  In my trial, I prefered it over the warm tone of Powerful Pink rather than the cool tone of Blue Shock.  I give this polish a 2 out of 5.

Have a marvelous Monday, all!

Review: ILNP – Bad Mogwai

Good morning lovelies!  I decided to play around with ILNP’s Bad Mogwai and today I will share my thoughts on this discontinued polish.

Based just on looks in the bottle, I thought this polish to be a black jelly with green glitter.  I was very surprised to find that it is actually a clear base with green and black glitter!

Both pictures are one coat with no undies.  I really like the density of the glitter and how much you get in one coat.  I did find that I had to use several brush strokes to get a more even application of the glitter, but this really did not bother me.

Gunmetal Mogwai Mogwai Mani

I think this polish has lots of potential as a glitter topcoat.  I tried it out over Avon’s Gunmetal and Urban Gray.  I prefer the look I got over Gunmetal to Urban Gray, but I think it is just that I expected Urban Gray to come out a little more gray than nude.

My one complaint with Bad Mogwai was the smell.  It was a bit strong compared to other polishes I’ve used.  Other than that one thing, I liked the application, glitter consistency, and the overall aesthetic of the polish.  I must say that I give this polish a 4 out of 5 due to the smell.

Have a fantastic Friday, all!

Review: Glam Polish – Lucky

Hello lovelies!  Today I will be reviewing Glam Polish in Lucky.  As far as I can tell, this is a discontinued polish as it is no longer listed on the Glam Polish shop.  I won this polish through The Mercurial Magpie‘s Blogiversary giveaway along with ILNP’s Bad Mogwai – another discontinued polish.

Lucky is truly a beautiful polish in the bottle.  It is a turquoise crelly base with turquoise, green, gold, and some holo glitters.  The holo glitters are big circles.

I was not able to show the big circle holo glitters in either macro shot.  They were extremely hard to get on the brush, I think I only wound up with two on one hand.

As you can see, this polish required quite a bit of buildup to be opaque.  I’ve shown several three-coat polishes, but this one just doesn’t measure up with the others.  I think I would have liked it better if it was a true jelly base and not a crelly.  As you can see, if you get a big circle holo on the first or second coat, it gets covered up with the next coat and you loose the holo effect.

I was really disappointed with this polish.  I had seen some gorgeous swatches, but I just could not get the look with my bottle.  Forgetting about the glitter, application was great; however, the glitter was very finicky to apply and you can almost forget about the holo glitters without a ton of fishing.  I would like to see if some Glitter Food by Nail Pattern Boldness would help this one.  Overall, I give this polish a 1 out of 5.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, all!

Manic Mani Monday!

Hello lovelies!  Whew, what a morning – and now afternoon here!  Had to get the oil changed in my car and that took two hours!  Elizabeth was with me, and she did really well and kept entertained the first hour and a half.  After that, we had to make a grocery store run.  And that’s where I found what I’m going to share with you today: my HEB finds.

First up is this Hand Conditioner by Nailtiques.  It was $1.99 and with the salon-quality polish.  My hands are perpetually dry, so I decided that I would give it a shot.  The last picture was to show the consistency.  It is a little runny if applied generously, and I will say that the amount pictured was way too much.  I’m not “in love” with the smell.  It’s not bad, but I’ve experienced more pleasant hand lotion scents.  The smell reminds me of something that I cannot put my finger on.  Even though I applied too much, it still absorbed into my skin quickly, and I was not left with a greasy feel.  I will provide a final review after using this for awhile, but first impressions are good.

My other find was the OPI Coca-Cola collection.  Overall, I’m left pretty unimpressed by the collection.  To me, the most interesting polishes are Today I Accomplished Zero (pictured above), Green on the Runway, and Orange You Fantastic.  Personally, I would pass on Green on the Runway because it looks like it wouldn’t work with my skintone.  The rest of the collection reminds me of things I’ve seen too many times before.  Sorry OPI, I love your formula, but I find this collection “meh.”

Back to my polish, Today I Accomplished Zero.  This polish is the “Coke Zero” polish.  I not only like the drink, but I like this polish.  It is a black base with rose-tone glitter that leans more red than rose.

With standard, thin polish coats, it took three coats to make this polish really pop.  Two coats could work if you’re in a hurry, but the polish is really at its best with three coats.  Pictures above show the polish buildup and my finished mani.  All photos are with Orly Bonder base-coat and no top-coat.

Bottle Macro Thumb Macro

As you can see in the macro shot of my thumb-nail, the glitter is a little bumpy.  I’m sure had I used a top-coat it would have smoothed out.

I am very pleased with my choice to pick up this polish.  Yeah, it’s not the most “summery” polish, but summer in Texas is over-rated.  It’s hot, it’s humid, it’s just all around horrid.  I am going to go so far as to day that my Mani Monday mani is my anti-summer mani.

Overall, it is a standout in a bland collection.  I am a little disappointed it took three coats to make it look its best, but since they were thin coats I am hoping that it lasts a bit longer than my other manis I’ve done.  I love the OPI formula application, and this polish does not disappoint.  I find the contrast of the black base and rosey glitter to be a winning combo.  I give this polish a 4 out of 5.

Have a marvelous Monday, all!

RubySprinkles does Ruby Red Slippers by Deborah Lippmann

Hello lovelies!  I love going through my stash and finding polish I forgot I had.  This was the case with the polish I am showcasing today, Ruby Red Slippers by Deborah Lippmann.

Ruby Red SlippersRuby Red Slippers LabelI think I got this polish through a promo on Gilt.  Or as I like to call it after I’ve shopped: Guilt.  I always find way too much stuff.  But I digress.

Ruby Red Slippers is a black jelly base with small and large red glitter.  I found that for complete opacity, I needed three coats.

The glitter was a little lumpy.  Nothing a nice top coat didn’t smooth out though.  I like the vampy-ness of this polish.  I’ve seen a polish that seems to be the same idea but with green glitter; Bad Mogwai by I Love Nail Polish.  I’d really like to see what it’d look like together with Ruby Red Slippers for a vampy Christmas mani.

As for Ruby Red Slippers, I’d have to give it a 3 out of 5.  It was a bit hard to get good glitter coverage, and it did take three coats for full opacity.  Formula-wise, it was on par with other Lippmanns.  Next time, I think I’ll do a black basecoat so I don’t have to put on so many layers.

Have a great weekend, all!

Aliquid Lacquer: Make a Wish

Hello lovelies!  Today I tried out Aliquid Lacquer’s Make a Wish.  I love the depth of this polish!

Aliquid Lacquer Bottle Make a WishI love being able to get mini-sized bottles; it means I can get more colors for my money!  This was a gift from my Summer Secret Santa, but the principle applies.

Make a Wish is a pale robin’s egg blue with copper colored glitter.  Applied, it has a greyish tone, but it is still a gorgeous color.

Photos are two coats with Butter London Hardwear topcoat.

You can see the depth of color in the macro shot.  It has some shimmer apart from the copper flecks.

I give this polish a 5 out of 5.  Application was a dream, it was opaque in two coats, and has had good wear.  I actually applied the polish yesterday and have minimal tip wear.  That is unusual for me and polish – I’m very rough on my nails.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, all!
